    MY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GOALS
    A New Skill For

    Me

    Necessary Steps For Reaching My

    Goal Target Date

    1. The opportunity

    here is for me to

    learn the Oracle

    database in-depth.

    This decision is

    because I want to

The first step will be to select a

certification that I can pursue based

    on the technology involved. From

there, I will prepare myself to sit for

the certification exam by pursuing the

    relevant course and proceeding to

    Oracle is a new

    interest for me;

    therefore, I would not

    like to rush the

    process. As a result, I

    will give myself

    3

    challenge myself

    with the

    technology

    involved. I have

    used the

    technology on

    various

    occasions;

    however, I do not

    have in-depth

    knowledge.

    Therefore,

    improving my

    skills in this area

    will enable me to

    perform a wide

    variety of

    activities online,

    such as database

    workloads.

register for the exam. seven months to learn

    how to operate it

    successfully.

    2. I intend to learn

    how to turn mail

    into a reliable

    productivity and

    time management

I am going to integrate google

calendar with the mail, and I have a

strong belief that I will not have a

    problem doing so

    Mastering this will

    probably take me an

    hour.

    4

    tool.

    3. Developing

    graphs and

    making

    adjustments to

    properties

    enlisted in

    spreadsheets.

To master this skill, I will be using

    Microsoft Excel to develop the

graphs. To know how to navigate the

process, I will watch several online

video tutorials and try to practice on

    my own.

    Several hours per day

in about 2 to 3 days

    will be enough to

    equip me with the

    know-how.

Describe your experience and comfort level with the use of technology.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to interact with different technologies, and so far, I have

enjoyed the experience. I have witnessed how promising technology can be, especially in the healthcare

industry, as it has played an integral role in improving healthcare quality, thus increasing patient

satisfaction. Technology has also reduced medical errors, thus reducing misdiagnosis and patient death. A

real-life example of how beneficial technology can be is the installation of touch-screen computers in the

emergency department of Texas Baylor Medical center at Waxahachie, which has contributed to efficiency

and patient care. With these systems, the nurses do not need to find a doctor to retrieve a patient’s chart, lab

tests are readily available, and there is an improvement in communication between departments which has

improved collaboration (Ratna et al., 2018). Therefore, I can say that my experience with technology is

    positive.

However, I would not say that I am comfortable with it since it is advancing rapidly; therefore, I

must keep reminding myself of various aspects to catch up. Also, during my practice, I have seen how

nursing practitioners struggle to use new technology as it seems as if there is no adequate training that will

expose them to sufficient education on technology (De Witt Jansen et al., 2018). Nurses sometimes have to

rethink their work since constant system breakdowns hinder their work. Another thing is that I am not very

    5

confident with technology since its installation in the healthcare sector has not turned in more patients.

Moreso, there are still opportunities for errors to happen when using bar-code scanning, which can consume

a lot of nurses’ time, leading to more waiting time. The same applies to technological systems such as

automated medical systems designed to provide convenience to the pharmacy. For these reasons, I can say

that I am happy experiencing different technologies as they are playing an integral role in sharpening my

skills in various ways. Still, I am not comfortable relying on them too much. However, I will remain open-

minded because the future might have more reliable technological systems that will not experience constant

breakdowns and high levels of accuracy.
