LEADING IN A VUCA WORLD 3
Leading in a VUCA World
If four words describe the current working environment in the contemporary world, they would be volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. The world is constantly changing, making it increasingly difficult to predict or control. A good example is the emergence of the Coronavirus pandemic, which no one was prepared for or had anticipated. This event led to the shutdown of several countries and the death of millions of people globally. This proves the importance of learning to lead in a VUCA world.
One concern from living in a VUCA world is how to lead properly. Leadership, in a broad sense, means governing yourself and others. One of the aspects that are seldom looked at is the leadership of self and its impact on the leadership of others. A VUCA world greatly impacts an individual (Casey, 2020). Over the years, the brain has grown to embrace control and abhor constant change. This control and predictability have helped human civilization adapt and survive. However, this has now changed. In a VUCA world void of certainty and control, it can be hard for the brain to adjust, hurting an individual’s ability to adequately cope. This is perhaps one of the reasons why mental health issues have been on the rise (Casey, 2020).
This begs the question: how do we lead ourselves better in a VUCA world? What is the best strategy to employ with regard to leading ourselves? How can we take care of ourselves in a constantly changing world? I believe that this is a good question to start on before initiating a discussion on how to lead others properly.

6.2 Project.Technology Adaptation Proposal Project
Getting Started
You have been working on this project throughout the course. You finally get a chance to show it off. This project is a chance for your team to show that you can synthesize knowledge that you have gained throughout the program. The expectation is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, that when you begin to use multiple tools from your leadership toolkit at once, you become more effective at leading through important moments such as a technology adaption process. You have to know how to apply change theory. You have to know if your team is ready for such a change, and if not, how to get them ready. You have to know how to communicate the change. You have to know how power and organizational politics will influence the adaptation and how to motivate others to get on board with the change. You have studied and applied each one of these pieces of leadership in previous assignments, and each one of them enhances the other. It’s like a rope where each strand makes the rope stronger.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
· Develop a proposal, incorporating learnings from multiple BSOL courses, that convincingly advocates for a technology adaptation in an organization.
Background Information
In this activity, you will describe the technology you would like implemented in the organization and why. You may know of a technology that would benefit the organization or you may need to research this. Using content from this course, you should be able to identify what the new technology is, how it would be helpful, and what possible pitfalls you may need to guard against (remember the futurize vs. humanize dynamic). The organization may be small and have one team or be an organization made of numerous teams. If the technology adaptation only impacts one department, focus on that department team and the dynamics at play there. If it is organization wide, think of the leadership of the organization as the main team.
Instructions
1. Consider our discussions on VUCA (
Discussion 3.2 included
) – Will this implementation possibly create volatility, uncertainty, complexity, or ambiguity? If so, how can you address this? And/or, will this implementation bring additional vision, understanding, clarity, adaptability, or agility? Will this implementation create or solve any legal challenges?
2. Create three PowerPoint slides.
3. Create a Reference Page formatted according to APA style with the sources cited for the assignment.
Place an order in 3 easy steps. Takes less than 5 mins.
