Discussion 1
My name is Raymond, and I am 67 years young and reside in Virginia with my lovely wife
of 40 years of marriage with our energetic and very smart granddaughter “10-year-old”,
who keeps us very busy to say the least. I have retired from the Salvation Army and
before this academic journey I fished, hunt, and explored the beauty of the world.

I have been fortunate to obtain employment in the field that I studied so hard to
become a psychologist which I hold a master’s degree in psychology, and this will be my
second Masters. Upon my retirement from my job now I will pursue my Doctorate
degree in Psychology where I will have the time and resources to get my degree without
too many outside influences.

Question – Discuss the difference between Mandatory ethics and aspirational
ethics?

When we look at the difference between these two one will understand that aspirational
ethics upholds the highest level of ethical practice and what is best for the client,
whereas mandatory ethics focuses more on professional ethics and practice.
Furthermore, mandatory ethics are governed by hard and fast rules and aspirational
ethics involved critical thinking and evaluation of various ethical decisions.

Explain how mandatory ethics and aspirational ethics may influence people?

Mandatory ethics are the minimum ethical standards that all counselors must comply
with in their profession, whereas aspirational ethics ensure that the client receive the
best level of care and in doing so it ask the counselors to evaluate their personal
behaviors as well as their motivation, and the ethical code.

Discuss how you will use this information learned in this class to further yourself
professionally?

I have and will continue to use this information being that mandatory ethics are
standards that all counselors should practice being it gives insight as to what counselors
should do and what they must not do and on the same note, aspirational will assist me
with doing what is the best for my client’s interest.

Discussion 2
My name is Parfait and I am currently majoring in the (Master of Arts in Human Services
Degree Program). Also, I hold a double major bachelor’s degree in (Social and Criminal
Justice) and an associate degree. I plan to use my degrees to work in the Juvenile Justice
System, and right now, I am currently living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but originally
from Miami, Florida, and at the moment I am working at the Salvation Army as a resident
monitor. Which is a stressful environment but worth the experience I love working with
my staff we all have a great connection, and we all communicate well with each other
well. Also, in my spare time, I am a member of the Lupus Foundation of America
Foundation and participate in the organization to bring awareness about Lupus. I have
been a member of this organization since my first diagnosis of Lupus in 2001. I am
looking forward to working and talking with everyone in the next six weeks and best
wishes to all of you.

• Discuss differences between mandatory ethics and aspirational ethics.

There are mandatory ethics that have standards and rules set forth by a profession to
help an individual function at the level of ethical reasoning that single-handedly keeps in
compliance with basic standards with the profession. Also, aspirational ethics focuses on
the understanding and purpose of the ethical status of the profession.

• Explain how mandatory ethics and aspirational ethics may influence people.

Counselors should evaluate their personal behaviors and their motivation and the ethical
codes in order to ensure that their clients receive the services that they would need for
care. Understanding the ethical dilemma provides the
framework and justification for the application of the model (Barnett & Johnson, 2010.
Carson, 2013; Remley & Herlihy, 2016). In addition, counselors have an ethical
responsibility to avoid actions that cause,
harm (i.e., nonmaleficence; ACA, 2014a; Kitchener, 1984).

• Discuss how you will use the information learned in this class to further
yourself professionally.

Listening skills and Clear communication starts with active listening. If you’re just
focused on how, you are expressing yourself, chances are you are not listening or
reacting to what others are bringing to the table and this can be done by using a variety
of different styles to achieve. They pay close attention to what’s being said and make
others feel heard and considered. Also, being able to have empathy and to understand
the feelings of those around you is an integral part of being an effective communicator.
Empathizing means both understanding and relating to someone else’s feelings. Also,
having emotional intelligence and demonstrating an ability to empathize builds rapport
between you and others and increases your ability to communicate with clients.

Discussion 3
My name is Swint, and I am a graduate of The University of Arizona Global Campus. I
received a bachelor of arts in healthcare administration. I am currently pursuing a
master’s degree in human services. I am a mother of two, a full-time employee with the
state of Georgia, and a CNA at a private facility where I care for the elderly and disabled.
Being a full-time employee and parent can be very challenging. I complete most of my
assignments between breaks at work and late nights once the kids are asleep, and some
days we all sit in the living area and do our work together to avoid the kids from feeling
alone. Sometimes, I become overwhelmed with my duties, forcing me to take a break.
During this time, I relax and become free of all things that are stressful at that very
moment and resume once I have regrouped. I also enjoy spending time with my family
and friends. I am big on family and showing love to those who express it to my kids and
me. We enjoy shopping, spa dates, vacations, family game nights, and seafood restaurant
dinners.

Mandatory ethics consist of rules and standards that professionals create to assist
with the functionality of individuals at the level of ethical reasoning that single-handedly
keeps in compliance with the essential criteria within the profession. Aspirational ethics
focuses on the purpose and understanding of the moral status within the

domain.Personal ethics are known as ethical principles. People use these ethics when
making decisions but are not limited to their behaviors in personal and professional
settings. Not only does ethics influence various aspects of a person’s life, but it aids in the
individual’s development of their work ethic, professional and personal goals, and values.
Individuals use their ethics to define right from wrong, determining how someone behaves
in challenging situations. Each person’s code of ethics varies, but many people share
everyday ethics, such as honesty and respect. Aspirational ethics may influence people,
motivates, and the ethical code to ensure their clients receive services that exceed the
expected standard of care. For instance, for a person with mandatory ethics at this level,
counselors are concerned with remaining safe from all legal action and professional
censure.

I will continue to use prior knowledge along with new information” learned
throughout the course to remain truthful and strive for a positive code of conduct in all
aspects, including school, work, and communicating with others in public.
