Purpose of Research
What do you hope to achieve?
Research Questions
You should have 2 or 3 research questions – these are the overarching questions of the study. These are the questions that will be answered with your research instrument. This is NOT the research instrument.
Significance of Research

Summary
Give a brief one paragraph synopsis of this chapter.
Chapter 2: Literature Review
Introduction
Provide a concise synopsis of the current literature that establishes the relevance of the problem. This should only be a few paragraphs. Summarizing the main themes of past research is a good approach.
Theoretical Framework
Provide a literature and research based analysis of how the theory has been applied previously in ways similar to the current study. Explain how the selected theory relates to the present study and how the research questions relate to, challenge, or build upon existing theory.
Literature Review of Similar Studies
Describe ways researchers in the discipline have approached the problem and the strengths and weakness inherent in their approaches. Review and synthesize studies related to the research questions and why the approach selected is meaningful.
NOTE: You will customize the remainder of the subheadings in accordance to the relevance of your study.
Summary
Give a brief one paragraph synopsis of this chapter.
Chapter 3: Methodology
Introduction
Explain the purpose of the study and the general method (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods) that will used to conduct the study. Explain what method you selected, and why it is the best choice – justify the decision.
Research Questions
Restate the research questions. They should match exactly with the questions you listed in Chapter 1. You should have 2 or 3 research questions – these are the overarching questions of the study. These are the questions that will be answered with your research instrument. This is NOT the research instrument.
Participant Selection
Identify the population that will be participating in the study. State the criterion/a on which participant selection is based. State number of participants / cases and the rationale for that number. Explain specific procedures for how participants will be identified, contacted, and recruited.
Research Instrument
Explain what instrument will be used to obtain information from the participants (survey, questionnaire, etc.). Explain the origins, was it used in past research or will a new instrument be created? How do we know if the instrument is valid and reliable?
Date Collection Procedures
Give a detailed step-by-step process of how data will be collected. You need to give enough detail so that any other research could replicate the study.
Ethical Concerns
Describe the treatment of human participants including the following as well as the importance of Institutional Review Board permission. Address any ethical concerns related to the recruitment of participants as well as any concerns regarding the actual collection of data from the participants. Explain the importance of an informed consent form. Describe how participants will provide consent. Explain how data will be collected, protected, and secured.
